Nostalgia. The main incentive for making this work. Nostalgia for the great styles of the past. Understanding that any replica, repetition of past masterpieces for existence here and now will sound unconvincing, led to reflections on a new language that will not violate and will connect the past and the present. Communication in this language should be deep and tactful, verified and very light as a breath, as a hint. The ceramist has many techniques in his arsenal, a boundless ocean of various materials. My arsenal as an artist is, of course, the laws of composition, the theories of great philosophers-artists, in particular, the theory of the «additional element» of Malevich.
Nostalgia. For viewers with a comprehensive knowledge of Russian, Soviet culture and art, with a subtle sense of humor, reading hints and allusions that are familiar to an educated person. This is how the decorative sculpture «Kunshtyuk» was born, where the almost classical form of an empire vase has an almost white porcelain color and an almost plant decor of the body, lid, pompous handles. And all these «almost»: porcelain is replaced by a white textured «foam» glaze on chamotte, reducing the pathos of the classical form, and the plant decor is assembled in classical proportions from clay husks of disposable plastic spoons. My sculpture is a fine line between beloved classics and plastic modernity. This is an almost serious joke, appropriate in any interior, because it is both independent and sociable.
