SATYAGRAHA (skt. «Perseverance in truth») is a philosophical and political doctrine developed by Mahatma Gandhi about nonviolent resistance to evil and injustice. This is the principle underlying the struggle aimed at transforming the opponent’s consciousness through personal perseverance and willingness to sacrifice. Satyagraha became the ideological foundation of India’s victorious independence movement and inspired civil rights movements around the world.
