Perhaps the most famous JOKE in the history of physics is «Schrodinger’s Cat.» This is a thought experiment proposed, apparently, by the scientist of the same name as an illustration of the absurdity of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. According to it, a particle exists in a superposition (in all states at once) until it is observed. Schrodinger acidly brought this to a macroscopic absurdity: he suggested imagining a cat locked in a box with poison that could be released by the decay of a radioactive atom — from the point of view of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, while the box is closed, the cat is both alive and dead at the same time.
