The story of the ARCTIC conquest is a centuries—old epic of courage and technological
breakthroughs. It all started with the Pomeranian fishermen and Cossacks (XVI–XVII centuries), who
explored Siberia and the Northern Sea Route. Then, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the race for the
North Pole began: the expeditions of Nansen, Amundsen, and the tragic attempts of Sedov and
