This is a digital ecosystem for volunteering and solving local social and environmental problems. The platform connects proactive organizers (those who see a problem and want to solve it) with people who are ready to help (volunteers). The key element is the verification and support system: professional platform managers check each application for feasibility, safety, and task compliance before it becomes available to volunteers. This guarantees the quality, trustworthiness, and effectiveness of each project. Our goal is to make volunteering simple, safe, structured, and widespread, turning good intentions into real action.

Key roles and how it works: 1. Organizer: Creates a detailed event request in the app (purpose, date, location, required skills, number of people). 2. Platform managers: Verify the application for accuracy and compliance with the rules (legality, safety, clarity of goals). These are internal employees. They approve, request edits, or reject the application. They formulate a clear plan for the task and only then publish it for general access. 3. Performer (Volunteer): Sees only verified events near them or on topics of interest (ecology, animal welfare, children, elderly people) in their feed. With one click, they can register for an event, contact the organizer, receive a reminder, and, upon completion, receive a digital «volunteer passport» with a history of their contributions.

  1. Reflections on the theory of communication in design

Developing a digital product, especially one of a social nature, is not only a task of ensuring convenience (UX), but also of creating new formats for group interaction. In this context, design becomes a tool that either contributes to or, conversely, hinders the formation of genuine sociocultural groups.

According to theory, a group is not just a random gathering of people, but a union of interdependent individuals striving for a common goal. The designer’s task is to use the interface to create conditions in which this interdependence and sense of community arise. For example, a simple list of events attracts a passive audience. However, if coordination functions are added (a shared chat, progress display, the ability to express gratitude to a participant), the design transforms passive observers into an active, goal — oriented group.

Thus, each screen of the application is an act of communication. The «Respond» button is not just a mechanical trigger, but an invitation to join the group, a transition from passive observation to active interaction. Visual identity (logo, color palette, illustrations) fosters a sense of belonging to a community of «like-minded people, ” creating the feeling that this is not just a set of disparate functional pages, but a unified whole. Design based on communication theory designs not just interfaces, but social connections.

Have you ever seen news about an abandoned park, homeless animals, or lonely elderly people and wanted to do something, but didn’t know where to start? Or were you just looking for company to do a good deed? It’s a familiar feeling.

We present Nature Friends — your reliable guide to the world of real good deeds. It’s not just an app, it’s your personal map of opportunities to change the world around you for the better, step by step.

How does it work?

1 Find: Open the map or feed of events near you — a community work day at the lake, collecting food for a shelter, helping to organize a charity run. Everything is verified and safe. 2 Choose: Whatever appeals to you. For an hour or on a regular basis. Alone or with friends. 3 Take action: Sign up for an event with one click. Communicate with the organizer and other participants directly in the app, coordinate actions. 4 Inspire: Share your results, receive gratitude, and see how your efforts add up to the big picture of good together with thousands of other people.

There is no bureaucracy here, only action. There is no loneliness here, only a team. Nature Friends is a community where your desire to help meets the real opportunity to do so. Download the app and find your first like-minded people today!

Nature Friends: An effective digital ecosystem for mobilizing and managing social capital. We present the Nature Friends platform, which solves systemic problems in the field of volunteering: poor coordination, risks of unreliable initiatives, difficulty in scaling, and lack of measurable metrics.

Our solution is a three-tiered management model: 1 Organizers (initiators) create an event card with a clear brief: goal, objectives, required resources, date. 2 Expert moderators verify the application for compliance with safety, legality, and effectiveness criteria. Only after approval is the event published. This ensures group norms and quality standards for the entire community. 3 Volunteers get access to a verified catalog of tasks, can sign up, communicate in task-oriented groups (event chats), and receive digital confirmation of participation.

Key benefits for professionals: • For NGOs: A tool for recruiting and managing volunteers, reducing administrative burden. • For municipalities: A platform for organizing city initiatives with transparency and citizen engagement. • For corporate partners: Clear KPIs for corporate volunteer programs (CSR), the ability to provide targeted support for verified projects.

The platform creates not just activists, but sustainable secondary groups (according to Cooley C.H.), focused on specific social outcomes, where interaction is formalized and purposeful. We offer not just a service, but an infrastructure for social change.

  1. Explanation of the theory application

The concept of the Nature Friends app and the structure of this presentation were deliberately built on the principles of group communication studied in the course.

1 Application of sociological perspectives: • The functional perspective (macro level) formed the basis for the vision of the platform as a social institution that performs a specific function — structuring volunteerism to increase social effectiveness. This is reflected in the presentation for professionals, where we talk about the ecosystem and infrastructure. • The interactionist perspective (micro level) became the key to designing the user experience. We analyzed the «action list» of a typical user (saw a problem -> found like-minded people -> coordinated -> got the job done) and designed an interface that facilitates each step of this interaction, thereby predicting the formation of effective micro groups around tasks.

2 Focus on key group parameters: • Interdependence is a central principle. The platform is designed for people who understand that their common goal (solving a social problem) cannot be achieved alone. Each event card emphasizes the importance of each participant («15 people are needed for cleaning»). • Group norms are implemented through the institution of moderators. Moderators set and enforce rules (verification, safety, correctness), regulating the behavior of community members and ensuring predictable and high-quality interaction. • The brand identity and its visual expression (logo, colors, language) are purposefully designed to foster a sense of community and belonging among users, transforming them from an anonymous mass into a cohesive community.

3 Accounting for group types: • The platform purposefully creates task-oriented groups. Each event is a temporary group formed for a specific action (cleaning, collecting aid). Its communication in the chat is purposeful and limited to the lifetime of the task. • At the same time, the entire app community can potentially develop the characteristics of relational-oriented groups, where people find friends and like-minded people based on shared values. • The concept also takes into account the difference between primary and secondary groups. Within small, regular projects (e.g., a team of regular shelter volunteers), close, emotionally rich bonds (primary groups) can form. The entire platform as a whole functions as a secondary group — more formalized, with instrumental goals and less emotional but more structured communication.

Thus, the theory was not simply cited, but served as a constructive basis: from the name and interface to moderation and target audiences for the presentation. Each element was designed as part of a system of group communication aimed at achieving a common meaning and real social results.
