By the end of the 1960s, the American car industry had achieved mastery in the 'nbsp; the art of making personal luxury cars. There were cars that yelled about sports, and there was those that whispered about the status among them was the flagship convertible Buick. It was a car for those who had already achieved everything, and now he wanted to enjoy the journey with the the veteran in the the wolf, not but to refuse the the silence and the comfort.

The Societal Lion of Cars
==History==The story of Buick Elektra 225 began in 1959 when Elektra replaced the former Buick model, Roadmaster. The name of the new car was borrowed from Elektra Waugoner Biggs, a Texas social lion and sculptor that was the sister-in-law of then-President General Motors Harlow Curtis. The number «225» in the title indicated the impressive length of the body of the first generation, exceeding 225 inches (5.71 metres). This immediately gave rise to the popular nickname of the new Buick model, «Deuce and a Quarter». By 1969, the model was in its third generation. This year was a special year for the C-body platform, which was based on Elektra. The car received a light restiling and, more importantly, an inch-long wheelbase, which now stood at an impressive 127 inches (3,225 mm). It added to the already large car even more smooth and spacious in the salon.

Technical specifications
Under the hood of this «light lion» was a real power machine. The heart of 1969 Elektra 225 was a huge V8 engine with a capacity of 7 litres with a four-cam carburettor. It had a capacity of 360 horsepower at factory measurements and a torque of 644 Nm. That’s the amount of drive that’s allowed a heavy convertible to go free. In Elektra, an automatic three-stage transmission of Turbo-Hydramatic 400 was installed, known for its reliability. The gear shift was carried out by means of a selector on the steering column. The car used an independent rear suspension (four ligament with springs) and an independent front. The brake system was powerful, and the front brakes on many versions were discs and the rear brakes were drummers. The weight of Elektra was about 2,045 kg, and despite its large dimensions, the car, thanks to the hydraulic steering and brakes, was very easy to control.
Doctor ' s car
The history of this car would be incomplete without mentioning its status in American society. In the United States, the informal title of «doctor car» became firmly established for Elektra 225, saying that successful doctors chose Buick rather than Cadillac to avoid embarrassing patients with excessive, eye-browing luxury. Elektra was a sign of success, but of the success of the humble and worthy. The design of the «doctor’s car» was full of unique details, which today are a visiting card of the era: 1. VentiPorts are typical of Buick’s «gills» on the front wings, which were four on each side of the flagship model; 2. The thin but massive line of the chrome lightning Sweepspear passing through the whole body and highlighting its length; 3. Elegant caps simulating wired beads bearing the Buick emblem in the centre and white broad section tyres; 4. Massive radiator grate and no less massive rear optics throughout the body width.
Heritage and Impact
The value of Buick Elektra 225 for history goes far beyond the technical specifications. This model was one of the last bastions of the era of real «full size» convertibles. Already in the 1970s, the oil crisis and new security requirements almost destroyed this class of vehicles. However, Elektra’s name did not go to Leta. In the 2020s, Buick gave it his new line of electric cars. By paying tribute to the great past, Buick, by this gesture, also symbolizes entering the great (electrical) future.
The old Elektra 225 will remain in history as a symbol of the carefree times when the road was endless, and the untopped journey in the leather salon under the giant V8 combination was the best way to drive this road.
