It is generally believed that Hawashi (a.k.a. Hawawshi) invented in the 1970s butcher Ahmed Al Hawawsh, who worked in the Cairo Tafik market. In any case, today it is one of Egypt’s most common daily cuisine, although there are variations regarding the shape of the petals.
