Carnival continues! The second part of the anniversary art exhibition of the PCSS group (Pavel Pepperstein and Sonja Stereostyrsky) demonstrates a detailed view of the new experimental direction in art created by the authors, «carnaval conceptualism».

While the first part of the exhibition at the Design School Gallery (HSE ART GALLERY) in the Pionerka really resembles an accounting event (with more stringent expositions, conceptual blocs and no specific lyrical derogations), the second part in the Vinzaura space is a platform for more nuanced discussions about the genre differences between Moscow’s conceptualism and its «carnaval» successor. It is important to note that at the second Pepperstein and Stereostyrsky Exhibition, they understand the artistic heritage with which they communicate directly. In addition to the above, the exhibition shows works from a large project called «Neirodadaism. Unhuman view of the history of European and American art» (2022-2023). On the Pionera, only one visual and plastic aspect of the project can be seen: stylistic experiments with the painting of Pepperstein, «The Fall of a Huligan from the fence» (2023). And at the Winsaurus, there’s a whole range of unusual and thought — provoking ways to deal with unhuman agents and a rich artistic tradition. Cinematography samples are the next (and rather extensive) main line of the exhibition. The central structure describes the full-length film «White Noise» (2021) and the process of its creation. The first film group in RPTC is an artistic allegorical parable. The production is not credible, nor is it historical, referring to surrealism and dream images. Three plasma screens broadcast images: a complex atmosphere, monochrome, stylization, fantasmagoritism. The narration about the film forms an environment where, in addition to the video, the masks of the actors, photo-documentation from the show, posters, and attributes are placed as in the museum.

Specially for the anniversary project, Pepperstein and Stereostyrsky merged with students at the ICU School of Design, a poster lab led by Yuri Gulitov. Carnival is indeed continuing, and its main actor is an spectator who turns from passive observer to co-author of this dusty, multilayered and endlessly fascinating world.
