Exposition of «Terror Things» by the curators: Diane Machulina, Arseny Sergeyev
The exhibition «Terror Things» is a project by ICU School of Design teachers Diana Machulina and Arseniy Sergeyev. The curators invited the students to reflect on what can be considered permanent and reliable in an era of relativism and endless change.

What can be done in a world of post-truths, political unrest, and frequent social and cultural unrest? What are the hard things that we rely on when we make a decision, choose an action, or reject it? What is real and unmistakable?
Most participants have come to the subject of lies of various kinds as the most permanent part of our reality. The exhibition is full of work about personal and collective trauma, deception and injustice.
It is far more important for young artists to talk about pain and doubt, to review and analyse established norms and rules, to examine the fragility of our world than to deal with «everlasting values».
Intelligence, horoscopes, superstitions and sayings, questionable media behaviour, dominance of gadgets and social media, absurd political background and propaganda, environmental problems have proved to be the most permanent features of modern times.
The shaky foundation of mass uncertainty and anxiety today determines our behaviour to a great extent and deserves a critical view by the artist. This critical look can be called another hard thing. It gives us hope for a better future — change is impossible without a constant and systematic assessment of the state of society today.
