
The issue starts with the publication about Marianne Brandt — the famous Bauhaus master and one of the few women designers of the first half of the XX century.

The section «Personification» continues to get the readers acquainted with outstanding designers of the past, and our famous contemporaries. For your attention, St.Petersburg artist and designer Yury Shtapakov, widely known for his unique books in Russia and abroad, published in author circulation from one to ten copies.

In their own column, Olga and Alexander Florensky are presenting their next project of the «Russian design» series: Towards IEY. The works by them are kept in the collections of the leading museums of the world, including the state Russian Museum and the Hermitage (St.Petersburg), the Tretyakov Gallery and the state Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), numerous museums of other cities of Russia as well as KIASMA (Helsinki, Finland), the City Art Museum (Helsinki, Finland), Victoria and Albert Museum (London, Great Britain).
In the «Lettering» section, the type history researcher Alexandra Rusakova speaks about the European and American typographic poster of the XIX century.
We’re publishing here the interview with St.Petersburg designers Andrey Lyublinsky and Maria Zaborovskaya. They became famous for their innovative projects in the field of conceptual design toys.
«Object» studies the evolution of such a customary item as an iron. Art historian Nina Filyuta traces the development of its shapes and functionality from long ago till nowadays. Our expert, the famous industrial designer Evgeny Maslov, working for BMW-Designworks, comments on designer conceptions of an iron and the ways of its possible evolution in the future.
In the section «Environment», we share the famous project Ferropolis (The Iron City), implemented in Germany not far away from Berlin.
The publication about the city environment is continued with the project «No city» by Dmitry Goryachev, the famous photographer from St.Petersburg.
In «Photography», the member of the editorial board, and the photographer of the State Hermitage Yury Molodkovets continues the series of publications «25 photography lessons». And in cooperation with the State museum Tsarskoselskaya Collection, we publish the works by photographer Alexey Zelensky.
In section «School», dedicated to design studies, the editorial board member Sergey Serov tells about the summer schools of calligraphy run by the famous designers Yevgeny Dobrovinsky and Yuri Gulitov in Hersones. The school of summer‘2008 was dedicated to wine.
Another publication in this section presents Dmitry Mirilenko’s graduate project. His book Dadaism Typographics has just taken gold in the nomination Graphic design at St.Petersburg design biennale Modulor.
In the section «Books» the legendary Russian designer Maxim Zhukov, working at the UN headquarters in New York at the time, tells about one of his works of 1982. This is Typography, the famous book by Emil Ruder.
We also present the new book of the series The Stars of Graphic Design, dedicated to the works by Yury Gulitov.
