The annual final exhibition of students, graduates and teachers of the National School of Design «Telling Storys. Big data.» curators: Alexandra Kuznetsov, Vladislav Efimov
«Telling Storys. Big data» focuses on the attitude of artists towards modern ways of using, processing and visualizing information flows.
The methods of big data analysis, which are actively developing in all spheres of human activity, even in the field of poetic descriptions of the world, one of which is modern art. Visual and audio studies in the field of big data are conducted not only by scientists, but also by artists, photographers, designers.
Preparations for the exhibition took place throughout the school year: a working group was set up, and an open call was announced for students, graduates and teachers of the School of Design and the Faculty of Creative Industries of the INES. Artists and designers, illustrators and designers, video artists and photographers, sound artists and programmers, and environmental and game designers were invited to participate. After discussion and joint refinement of the applications, two high-level data exhibitions were formed. One of them was prepared jointly with MOMMA and demonstrated at the museum building on Petrovka 25.
In the project Poems by Robot, the artist’s interaction with the neuronet has been documented in a step-by-step manner. By offering artificial intelligence photographs of their designs and previous works, the author receives new images that form the basis of the sculptures presented. This cycle is repeated over and over again, opening the door to endless artistic production in conjunction with machine algorithms.

They all represent the elephant in different ways and, as a result, none of the descriptions are correct.
The visual images of the «Believe Not» project are generated by a neuronet in response to a request for what «normal childhood» looks like. The theme of childhood here is a metaphor for human attitudes to artificial intelligence.
The Past Thursday’s Palanter project interprets existing words by giving them a new meaning by nonverbal means: any word unfolds into an infinitely procedurally created world composed of layers, visual images and music.
«Ze. Minka. Azumai» is a series of data sculptures that show the ratio of materials in Japanese buildings. The natural textures of wood, stone, cane and other natural materials gathered together illustrate not only architectural principles, but also the Japanese «wabi-sabi» philosophy.
In the project «Delete or Leave», the choice remains whether to take an active part in the proposed game or not. The viewer decides whether to destroy the installation by means of the proposed kitchen hammers or to keep the home in its original form.
The Bio Synchronization system includes an instrument that allows the music of plants to be heard. Every seven days during the exhibition, the grape branch is cut off and connected to it by sensors that read changing electrical impulses in the process of dislocating.
The second exhibition was prepared by HSE ART GALLYERY on its own site at the ICU School of Design (Little Pionersky, 12). The gallery shows art projects and design works on the topic of big data.
They combine their desire to make visible the many different aspects of reality associated with the arrays of information, as well as the ways in which it is processed and interpreted.
In Project Unknown DALL-E, the artist downloads photographs from the personal photo archives into the neurosynthesis, thus converting them into a picture of the creative work of the memory mechanism. The images that were then placed on the edge of Rubik’s cube become available for re-assembly in a variety of ways.
In the project «Today you will finally find love with NOVALOVA», the artist created fairy accounts based on images of frequently encountered social media characters. They consist of portraits of the author and detailed fictional descriptions, on a specially designed platform for the project, a deutsche application in the NOVALOVA metaverse.
