Winter of Fools on Mediiia

A film-mysteria that explores timeless questions. What is art? Does an artist need to undergo total self-reflection and emotionally inhabit their work to create true art? Do we shape culture, or does culture shape us?

Inspired by magical realism, the enigmatic Russian winter, and David Lynch, this film does not offer clear-cut answers. Instead, it embraces the idea that «art is self-reflection expressed through artistic practice, evoking genuine emotions, feelings, empathy, and Angst.» The only true way to grasp its essence is to experience it emotionally, «Da-Sein"ly.

This is also one of the first screen adaptations of contemporary russian prose, featuring works by Sasha Sokolov, Vladimir Sorokin, and Prorok Sanboy.

Our author loved spending winter days in a hunting stand, nestled in the bosom of the forest. It wasn’t that it helped him write or conjure new ideas, but there was something in it — a quiet thread running through life, binding it all together.

An author’s virtue lies in sincerity. He must truly experience what he writes — only then will even the most sensual thought emerge, alive and throbbing.
